Ugh, I’ve got to join more mailing lists.
Yeasayer have released a CD of new material to members of their email club (anything to avoid word repetition, huh?) titled Henrietta, including the excellent taster Wait For The Summer, a return to the more guitar-based, jangling melodies from All Hour Cymbals.
Have a listen, and tell me what you think, eh? You never talk back, you weirdos.

Woah. It’s easy to be cynical about Nas post-Illmatic. Since the early 90s opus, he’s made more misses than hits, but his 2012 releases so far have gone pretty fucking hard. Produced by Heavy D, Salaam Remi and Da Internz, the snares snap with incredible verve, and Mr Jones sounds as urgent as in his best work. Play. This. Loud.

It’s great that there’s new Slowcoaches. Nous Aimons Danser has been scoping these guys out since stumbling upon Fuzzy Felt, but the lo-fi sheet of hiss has been sacrificed over time for crisp guitars and an elevated pace, with partial Poly Styrene vibes.
This EP is out on the 23rd of March. It’s £3, which is equivalent to a packet of some really bad cigarettes or a vending machine condom. Click on the link above to listen to all of it.

Ah, Min Diesel. Aberdeen can do it, y’know. For some bizarre reason the Silver City is bringing the grunge/whatever ‘scene’ kicking and screaming through hole-ridden jeans and tobacco scorched throats and we suddenly have bands that channel the loud/quiet aesthetic of Seattle with genuinely optimistic/simple ‘n fun lyrics. I guess Aberdeen and Seattle have some things in common; we’ve got plenty of Starbucks outlets, constant grey and harsh rain. Anyway, this is Min Diesel, three guys who make really good, scratchy music, and are constantly an enormous, jurassic threat to apathy with live shows that clatter and crash, leaving you wanting to be in a band for every second of the rest of the night/yr life.
