We like Zola Jesus here. In a little way, it’s because their label used one of my quotes in the Fly for her press*, but it’s also because Zola Jesus has one of the best voices in music this decade; “equal parts haunting and comforting”. Her new record Conatus is out on September 26th, and from the quirky Vessel, it would appear that Nika Danilova is in a more focused place, with grinding bass and a piano sound that nods to Massive Attack.
